New package from France

Just recieved a new package with manga from France.

„Dans L’intimité de Marie“ is about body switch between a boy and a girl. This is something that was done before. But here it is done by Oshimi (Flowers of Evil). Therefore (and also as the ratings on Amazon were good) i have no problems bying the whole series without having read a simgle volume before. Oshimi is that good.

From Pupa i have read the first volume, it also seems great (and a quite short series).

Of Chiisakobé i only know, that it is about a carpenter. Also from Mochizuki (Dragon Head, Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip girl) i can expect a decent, if not great manga. The drawings in this one remind me (just a little bit) of Charles Burns.

Overlord (Light Novel)

Recently I read the Light Novel „Overlord“ as it had some positive reviews. honestly I did not expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. At the first look, this looks like it’s just another trapped-in-an-RPG-Novel. Also at the second. So, why is it worth reading?

Firstly I found the setting interesting. In the fantsy world the Hero „Momonga“ is not the standard sword wielding hero, but, in fact, personifies pretty much the evil boss, at least in strength and appearance. As he finds himself trapped in a skeleton’s body, he does not seem to mind much. Also he does not seem to miss the real world, although being pretty much lonely, apparently being the only human. His main concern is the lack of knowledge about the world, that is not quite the RPG world he knew. Also the non-player characters behave different as he is used to. His cautious behavior is contrasted with his apparent strength, he seems to be the most powerful being of his world, resulting in sentences like this: „How weak…They die this easily?“
Yeah, spoken like a true villain!

Also the translation seems quite good, other than several other light novels I read (somehow „No Game No Live“ ready like a fan translation to me. Overall this I a very pleasant read, and I already downloaded Volume 2 into my ebook reader.

Let’s make a new Start…

I let this blog sleep for too long, it’s time to revive it.

In the future I will write here again all my favorite 2D stuff, comics, bandes dessinée, manga, anime, cartoon, artbooks, whatever.

I will do reviews, tell about news, or just boast about my new acquisitions.

I hope I will keep it up and will be able to deliver something interesting.

And all of this … now in English!

Cosplay Leipzig 2015

Jetzt wo kein Mensch mehr einen Blog hat sondern auch noch der letzte einen Youtube channel hat oder zumindest twittert habe ich kurzerhand, alässlich der Leipziger Buchmesse, beschlossen meinen Blog wiederzubeleben.

Ich war gestern das erste mal in Leipzig und muss sagen ich war beeindruckt.

Nicht wegen der Bücher. Wenn man Bücher will, fährt man besser nach Frankfurt.

Aber die Menge an Cosplay stimmt einen zwangsläufig fröhlich.

Man muss sich nur irgendwo hinsetzen und kommt aus dem Staunen nicht mehr heraus. Hier ein paar Beispiele.

 

Hellboy – Darkness Calls

Die gute Nachricht zuerst: nach fast 2 Jahren ist wieder ein neuer Hellboy Comic angekündigt mit dem Namen „Darkness Calls“ . Die schlechte Nachricht: Mignola zeichnet nur die Cover.

Ich frage mich, ob Mike Mignola sich nur noch darauf beschränken will Cover zu zeichnen und zu texten. Immerhin Hellboy und die Welt in der die Reihe spielt hat einen sehr interessanten Charakter und auch wenn sie nicht von Mignola gezeichnet sind, sind die Comics oft sehr interessant. Aber der eigentlichen Reitz der Serie war doch der Inhalt in Verknüpfung mit dem letztendlich doch unnachahmlichen Zeichenstil, den viele der anderen Hellboy Zeichner nur unvollkommen nachahmen. Die Zeichnungen der aktuellen B.R.P.D. Reihe gefallen mir ganz gut, aber die Seite von Duncan Fegredo, die in den aktuellen Februar Previews abgebilded ist, sieht nicht sehr vielversprechend aus.

Von Zeit zu Zeit sollte Mignola vielleicht doch eine Pause von lukrativen Film– und Zeichentrickprojekten nehmen und dafür sorgen, dass die Wurzeln seines Erfolgs, die beim Comic liegen, nicht verkümmern.
